Hauptwerk on existing organ

Did you know that a classical pipe organ can be expanded with several voices? This is called a combination organ, also known as a hybrid organ. A so-called combination organ is a combination of an existing pipe organ and a digital Hauptwerk organ by Mixtuur. A hybrid organ is the perfect solution if you don’t want the voices of your current pipe organ to be lost.

In addition to expanding your current organ with 100+ sample sets from various world-famous organs, your classical pipe organ will also be retained. As a result, you do not have to make a difficult decision whether you want a completely new Hauptwerk organ, or if you want to keep your existing organ.

What is a hybrid organ?

As mentioned, a hybrid organ is a combination of a pipe organ and a digital organ, also known as a virtual or electronic organ. The emergence of a hybrid organ dates back to the 1970s, where they were already experimenting in the United States and Italy with adding electronic sounds to existing pipe organs. However, after the invention of the MIDI application, on which the Hauptwerk software is also based, the development of the hybrid organ has made considerable leaps.

A hybrid organ is perhaps a little less known than a regular pipe organ, but the so-called combination organ is increasingly on the rise. Many municipalities see the benefits of the combined organ thanks to the extensive possibilities.

What is a Hauptwerk organ?

A Hauptwerk organ is a digital organ that works on the basis of the Hauptwerk software program. Hauptwerk is a program that makes it possible to load sample sets. A sample set is simply a recorder organs. Hauptwerk has more than 100 sample sets available, from organs all over the world. This way you can play various world-famous organs, simply in your own living room or municipality.

When a key is pressed, a signal is sent via MIDI, which is linked by a computer to a corresponding sound. For each sample set, each individual pipe is recorded separately. This sound fragment takes about 2 to 10 seconds.
