What is an electric organ?
An electric organ, also called a digital organ, is an electronic keyboard instrument and can be played through keys, just like a piano. With electronic organs, the sound of a pipe organ is recreated as realistically as possible for the ultimate sound. The organs all have one or more keyboards, a pedal, and swell pedals. Thanks to digital organs, the sound of a pipe organ or church organ can be experienced in your home. Once you play an electric organ, you often don’t want anything else.
Electric organs typically feature:
- One or more keyboards (manuals)
- A pedalboard for bass notes
- Swell pedals (or expression pedals) to control volume and dynamics
This setup allows organists to play music in a style similar to that of a classic pipe organ, but with significantly different internal technology.
Electric organ instruments can faithfully reproduce the full tonal range and complexity associated with large pipe organs, and even expand on it with customizable sound sets and digital effects.
Why choose an electric organ as your instrument?
Electric organs offer numerous advantages over traditional pipe organs:
- Compact and more affordable: They take up less space and cost significantly less than large pipe organs, making them accessible for home use or smaller venues.
- Lower maintenance: No need for complex wind systems or pipe tuning
- Versatile sound and customization: Through MIDI compatibility and digital sample sets, you can adapt the instrument’s sound to different musical genres, periods and styles.
- Performance flexibility: Suitable for home practice, teaching, recording, church services, concerts or studio use.
These characteristics make an electric organ instrument appealing as both a serious musical tool and a practical alternative to traditional organs for personal and professional use.
Organ with standard or simplified Hauptwerk
A large part of all electric organs from Mixtuur is equipped with Hauptwerk technology. This powerful software program is based on MIDI and can load sample sets from the most famous organs around the world. The result is a rich, dynamic and detailed organ sound that closely mirrors the experience of playing a real pipe organ.
- With standard Hauptwerk, you have full control over tuning, stops and couplers and can explore the deeper capabilities of your instrument.
- With simplified Hauptwerk, the operation is more straightforward. Ideal for organ players who want an intuitive experience without a steep learning curve.
